There are over one million individual podcasts out there. It seems like everybody and their sister and their brother and their uncle and their grandma and their pastor and their Peloton instructor has one these days. You can listen to everything from True Crime to Self-Help and — you guessed it — Financial Planning.
Hosting a podcast means you’re more accessible. You go from reaching so many people to so many people. But how do you get through to them?
Now, it’s one thing to have a weekly show, but it’s another thing to actually market that show. You need to gain a following, listeners, and, of course, leads. Here’s how you can market your podcast and extend your reach beyond the microphone.
Get Your Podcast Name Out There
First, make sure it’s known you have a podcast. Link it on your website, in your email blasts, and on your mailers. Wherever you market your brand, always add a direct link to your show. If it’s print, use your QR code and give them a direct link to your latest episode. Just make sure it’s visible somewhere and anywhere.
Post, Post, Post
Next, utilize your social platforms. Never be afraid to let your followers know when your newest episode drops.
When posting, remember that moving images will always catch more attention and more clicks. Take a clip from your latest episode and create a video. With that, you solve two problems in one: you’re marketing your show and creating new content for your social media feed.
Make Discovery Easy
Lastly, to reach people who don’t know you yet but are looking for information you provide, make it easy for them to find you. This all starts with titling your podcast appropriately, creating descriptions within each episode, and utilizing keywords people are searching for, like “healthcare options in retirement” and “inheriting money in retirement.”
Search engines and podcast platforms will deliver the right message to the right consumer. Remember: podcasts are a great and inexpensive tool to share your knowledge and generate leads. Invest your time in expanding your audience.
